RED ALERT: Gas venting this week!

Dear Friend of FRRACS,

It is probable that you did not receive the late notice from Enbridge on last Thursday that stated they would be venting gas directly into the Basin as part of the hook up of the compressor station to the metering and regulating station. We wanted to let you know about this in case you did not see it on our Facebook page as we are deeply concerned about the health and safety of our community.  These releases can be from Monday 7/6 through Monday 7/13.  Enbridge is only allowed to work Monday through Saturday.

There were very few people who directly received this notice, and we are attempting to find out who they were obligated to notify.  They did notify the Town of Weymouth, Braintree, Hingham, and the City of Quincy.  Only Braintree notified their citizens directly and filed with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to issue a cease and desist of this activity for lack of an air quality permit.  

The notification sent to the select few can be read here.  Algonquin (Enbridge) states that if you have a question about this you can call their Westwood office at 508-938-7728 or the Enbridge 24 hour hotline at 800-726-8383.  

We are encouraging you to call their offices and ask them directly why they are releasing  gas without a permit.  You might also call Thomas Cushing at the DEP at 508-946-2700, ext. 2824.  You will likely have to leave a message for Mr. Cushing as the DEP is working remotely--if at all.  Please ask Thomas Cushing why the DEP is allowing this gas release. With no permit, there is no approval for any polluting activity.

And if you have the time and the stomach for it, please call Gov. Baker, again, to ask him why he is not protecting the citizens of the Basin from the activities of Enbridge.  Call Gov. Baker at 617-725-4005. 

We will be in the area and will be working to record how much gas is being vented. Many thanks to Dr. Nathan Philips for undertaking this recording. Enbridge estimates it to be in the area of 74K cubic feet in total.  But when have they ever told the truth?
