Action Alert: More actions to take this week!

It's been a long couple of weeks, and if you're anything like us, you're tired and aggravated.  We hear you and feel the pain with you.  We hope that you had a bit of a chance to relax over the long Labor Day Weekend and that maybe you even got to see--socially distancing, of course--family and friends.  We hope that, physically and mentally, you got some rest.  

But, here we are, back to work after a rather strange summer.  Here are a few things that you can do to keep the pressure on Enbridge:

CALL ENBRIDGE- - 888-331-6553/Complaint Line:

  1. Ask them for the safety and evacuation plan for the compressor station in case of an accident. 

  2. Call and demand a two-hour window for when they plan to do the massive blowdown on Saturday, September 12. They plan to blowdown--in a short amount of time--475,000 standard cubic feet of fracked methane.  This will be loud (like a jet engine), smelly, and dangerous.  You deserve to know when this is happening so that you can avoid the area or leave your home if you feel this will make you feel unsafe or sick.

    • Here is more information on the health and safety risks of this compressor station from our friends at Greater Boston Physicians for Social Responsibility. The more calls, the better.  These calls must be recorded with FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission). Refuse to let Enbridge get away with further polluting our air, making us sick, and making us unsafe.

SEND A LETTER TO MASSDEP- Regarding the Air Quality monitoring plan for 2020.  The Weymouth monitor is in this plan and there some major omissions.  Go here for more information and for a sample letter. The letters must be received by 5:00 PM on Thursday Sept. 10. 

SIGN UP FOR EMERGENCY ALERTS - The Town of Weymouth has an emergency system to let you know about safety situations throughout the Town.  They have added the compressor operations as part of this system so that you will be warned of blowdowns--at least the big ones--before they happen.  Go to Code Red to sign up for these alerts.:For the alert system for the City of Quincy, sign up here. Ward 2 Councilor Brad Croall has requested that the City add compressor alerts.  For Town of  Braintree alerts go here to sign up. Call Mayor Kokoros' office at 781-794-8100 to request that compressor station alerts be added to the system

CALL GARY MORAN AT MASSDEP - MassDEP stated that the permanent air quality monitor would be set up in North Weymouth by July 1, 2020. It has been more than 2 months and it is still not in place. It is vital that we have a sufficient amount of time to collect baseline data before the compressor station is turned on. Call Gary Moran (MassDEP Deputy Commissioner for Operations and Environmental Compliance) at 617-292-5775.  Ask him when the DEP intends to set up the AQ monitor in the Fore River Basin.
