New study heightens concerns around gas stoves

RED ALERT: Public today is this long term study of the toxins that leak--24/7--from our gas stoves and gas heating systems. It is not good news, Fore River Campers.

Article: Home is Where the Pipeline Ends: Characterization of Volatile Organic Compounds Present in Natural Gas at the Point of the Residential End User

Coverage from The Boston Globe - Scientists tested the natural gas used in kitchen stoves around Boston. They found dangerous chemicals.

While at this stage of the research the emphasis is on "small amounts" of VOC (volatile organic compounds--like benzene) in the leakages, we in the Basin are keenly aware that there is no safe level of many of these compounds--like benzene! No matter how much the gas industry wants to downplay the hazards--like trying to convince you that it's no worse than the fumes from toxic cleaning fluids --this sounds suspiciously like the cigarette industry of years ago that worked to convince you that smoking was good for you.

Kudos to our many allies who worked and are continuing to work on this science. And a special thank you and acknowledgement our friend Dr. Curt Nordgaard!
