Stop Project Maple Coalition Delivers Letter to Gov. Healey

Stop Project Maple, a multi-state coalition of nearly 100 community organizations from New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts, delivered a letter to Governor Healey, to bring attention to Enbridge’s Project Maple.

As stated in the letter, Project Maple is “... a major expansion being proposed by Enbridge to their fracked-gas pipeline that runs from New Jersey to Maine and potentially the Canadian Maritimes. Enbridge is seeking to increase capacity of this line by up to 500,000 Dekatherms/day at the Ramapo, NY receipt point, and up to 250,000 Dekatherms/day at the Salem, MA receipt point.” You can read the full letter here.

Project Maple’s aim is to add gas facilities to and expand the diameter/pressure of the existing pipeline system, not build a new pipeline route. According to Enbridge, they will perform “System Modernization & Reliability Improvements”, some of which they mention here:

“Project scope will be comprised of a combination of replacing existing smaller diameter pipe with larger diameter pipe, extending pipeline loops in parallel to existing pipeline facilities, and adding compression at existing compressor stations, depending on subscribed volumes.” - Sept. 2023 Open Season Notice for Firm Service Enbridge document.

Many thanks to the Stop Project Maple coalition for organizing the letter drop-off to governors across the region. And a big thank you to our wonderful member, Andrea Honoré, for delivering the letter on behalf of the coalition and for getting coverage from multiple media outlets!
