Opponents hope to sway regulators against proposed Weymouth compressor station

From the Patriot Ledger:

WEYMOUTH – Residents of Weymouth, Quincy and Braintree have packed public meetings to oppose a natural gas compressor station planned for North Weymouth.

Weymouth’s mayor and town council have come out against it.

And state lawmakers say there’s no room for the facility in an already heavily industrial area at the mouth of the Fore River that’s close to nearly 1,000 homes on both sides of the river.

How much all of that matters, though, could be up to a single federal agency and its five-member commission that will ultimately decide whether Houston-based Spectra Energy will be able to build the station as part of a planned expansion of its Algonquin natural gas pipeline.
