Project Maple - Enbridge's Latest Pipeline Expansion Proposal

Enbridge, the company responsible for the Weymouth compressor station, recently released notice of an “Open Season” for a new expansion project called “Project Maple”. Open season refers to time in which companies can bid on the gas from a proposed project. Open season for this project ends in November. It’s unclear when exactly the public will receive more information about the potential buyers of the gas.

Project Maple’s aim is to add gas facilities to and expand the diameter/pressure of the existing pipeline system, not build a new pipeline route. According to Enbridge, they will perform “System Modernization & Reliability Improvements”, some of which they mention here:

“Project scope will be comprised of a combination of replacing existing smaller diameter pipe with larger diameter pipe, extending pipeline loops in parallel to existing pipeline facilities, and adding compression at existing compressor stations, depending on subscribed volumes.” - Sept. 2023 Open Season Notice for Firm Service Enbridge document.
