Action item: In search of a volunteer who could conduct a risk assessment

A message from Mike Lang, FRRACS Board member and Environmental Coordinator of the East Braintree Civic Association:

This is a new area for us. However, I am sure that one of your friends or neighbors has this experience and could direct us in this matter. We are looking for a risk assessment based on existing documentation and a site visit. We already have all of the documentation. I am asking all of our supporters to shake the bushes and find a knowledgeable person that could help us. We need the neighborhood groups to send this request to their membership. We need local business people to consider if they have associates that might fill this need.

Please contact me at nocompressor@gmail.com. Time is of the essence.

The Fore River Bridge got stuck in an upright position today just commuters were heading home for the day. The closure of the Fore River Bridge at rush hour today makes it clear the need for an independent risk assessment for the Fore River Bridge and the MBTA Bus Routes because of the risk of an accident at the compressor station.

FERC denies our request for rehearing in response to 2018 certificate extension

FERC denies our request for rehearing in response to 2018 certificate extension

It came as little surprise that FERC denied the rehearing request from FRRACS and the Town of Weymouth on the 33 minute turn around time for an extension of Enbridge's permit in late 2018. What was a surprise was the dissension of FERC Commissioner Glick:

"Actions like these only lend further credence to those who view the Commission as a rubber stamp in pipeline proceedings. We can and must do better. The process of producing an order that is voted on by the full Commission may not be perfect—and the Commissioners may not always agree—but that process will almost certainly deliver more reasoned and considered decision making than the parties received here."

Legislators seek risk assessment of Fore River Bridge

Legislators seek risk assessment of Fore River Bridge

Many thanks, again, to the South Shore delegation for forcing this common sense issue in front of Sec. Pollack. We NEED the MassDOT to conduct a risk assessment of the Fore River Bridge, given its close proximity to the proposed compressor station, existing pipes, and other industrial facilities.

Commonwealth - Physicians critique National Grid official’s stance

Commonwealth - Physicians critique National Grid official’s stance

Marcy Reed, of locking out union workers from National Grid fame, wrote a disingenuous article for Commonwealth calling into question Nathan Phillips' Commonwealth article about his hunger strike that highlighted our situation with the DEP. But this counter argument to Reed's article is true and stunning. Many thanks to the doctors of PSR.

Baker loosely commits to asbestos testing if it can be done in short time

Gov. Baker visited Boston Public Radio for his monthly “Ask the Governor” segment. Our member, Margaret, got a question in live. She pressed him on the DEP’s lack of testing at the compressor site. Gov. Baker responded by saying, “I will talk to DEP and…if it’s something we can get done in a reasonably short time, we will do it.” What’s with the time crunch? Why can’t they just go in, dig a little, and collect samples. The analysis doesn’t take very long.

Margaret says she "will remind Gov. Baker that he said "we will do it" (asbestos testing)." You can listen here; conversation starts at about 17:50.

Action Item: Contact JF Price

Call and email JF Price -- (781) 335-1021 : info@jfpriceco.com -- and urge them to put an end to their work with Enbridge.

JF Price is a local company that is working directly with Enbridge by supplying them with sand and gravel for the beginning stages of construction. We delivered a letter to JF Price last week, outlining the harms that the compressor station would pose, and urged them to cancel any remaining contracts with Enbridge. We asked them to respond to us by February 11, 2020. They have not responded.
